Although once part of the Ottoman Empire (Haleb), Aleppo is now within national boundaries of Syria.

These kilims are thought by some to have been woven in the mid-to-late 19th century by Syrian Kurds living near Aleppo.

There are several characteristics which identify it as having considerable age and comparative rarity.

The dyes are from natural sources with an unusual tonality clearly identified with the type and period.

The field is horizontally sectioned into panels; here, a white "running dog" or "wave" design is used.

Various star forms are displayed in repeat fashion; several of these resemble the Star of David.

Large stepped medallions in a repeat manner appear across the field.
